DRY TIME:

Q.  "What is the "dry time" and how long does it last?"

A.  The dry time is the period of time when no milk is available.  Most herd share programs have a two month dry period when the goats are dried off so that they can provide for the kids they are carrying.  We are working to provide milk year around for our shareholders even if it’s only ˝ gallon a week. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, a dry period may be possible.

Q.  "Do I still have to pay the monthly boarding fee during the dry time?"

A.  Because we are not actually selling milk, we are boarding, caring for, and milking your share of the herd, we must continue to charge the monthly boarding fee.  If the goats were living at your house, you would still need to feed and care for them regardless of whether or not they were producing milk.

You will have two options during the dry time:

1.  You can continue to pay the monthly boarding fee.  With this option, you will be guaranteed to start receiving milk just as soon as it becomes available.

2.  You are welcome to sell your share back to us and wait for the dry time to pass.  If you choose this option, your share will become available to purchase to those on our waiting list.  We are not able to guarantee that a share will be available when you are ready to purchase at a later date.

NOTE: If you choose this option, there will be a “Dry Period Termination Fee” equal to the amount of shares you own as stated in our Boarding contract.

Q.  "Are there any other fees?"

A.  We provide ˝ gallon glass jars for your use.  Should one get broken, there is a $2.50 charge for replacement.

MILK QUALITY

Q.  "Is raw milk safe?"

A.  Raw milk may contain harmful bacteria if not handled properly.  It is important to know how the milk you consume is handled.  Also, test results are a good indicator of the cleanliness of the milk.  Good taste is also important.

Q.  "How long does the milk last?"

A. Because our milk is not pasteurized it does not spoil and turn putrid like pasteurized milk does, but rather it will eventually sour.  Our milk should stay very fresh for at least a week in the refrigerator
